Norman A. Bernier, 90, of Worcester passed away peacefully Sunday, November 1st 2009 surrounded by his family. Norman is survived by the love of his life for 69 years, Anne M. (Kelleher) Bernier; his cherished daughter and son in law, Anne-Marie Monfredo and her husband John of Worcester; two adored grandchildren, John C. Monfredo of Spencer and Annemarie Monfredo of Worcester; a great granddaughter Morgan Fey; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Norman was born in Worcester, a son of Adolphus and Laura (Fortin) Bernier. He graduated from Classical High School, served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, attended Tufts and Clark University and has lived here most of his life. Norman was employed as a Chemist for the U.S. Steel Company, American Steel and Wire many years before retiring. Previous to US Steel, Norman worked as a dental technician for Bernier Dental Labs. He was a member of St George Church, the United Steel Workers Union, and the Greendale Retired Men's club. He was accomplished in playing the Organ and guitar. He enjoyed square dancing, round dancing, traveling and Golf. Norman was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was beloved by everyone who knew him and will be greatly missed. The funeral will be held Wednesday, November 4th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL; 370 Plantation St. with a Mass at 10:00 am in St. George Church, 40 Brattle St. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Tuesday, November 3rd from 4 pm to 7 pm in the funeral home.
