Raymond F. Mattress, Jr. 69, of Worcester passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, Sunday, October 18th 2009 after a valiant battle with cancer. Raymond is survived by his beloved wife and partner of 47 years, Judith S. (Prunier) Mattress; his cherished children, Raymond F. Mattress, III, his wife Kellie and their children Domenic and Anthony of Auburn, Catherine M. Dadah, her husband John and their children Hannah and Ava Marie of Holden, Lynne A. Moore, her husband Andrew and their children Sarah, Timothy, and Thomas, of Leicester, Mary F. Sampson and her husband Daniel of Worcester; a sister, Anna May Laurin and her husband Lawrence of Princeton; his loyal dog and best friend Buddy; several nieces, nephews and close friends. A son, Michael R. Mattress passed away in 1964. Raymond was born in Worcester, the son of Raymond F. Mattress, Sr. and Mary A. (Giabatti) Mattress. He graduated from North High School, earned his Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Boston and has lived here all his life. Raymond worked as a pharmacist more than 40 years. He began his career at Haig & Haig Drug. He went on to own Millward Pharmacy for several years and worked for various pharmacies throughout the area including St. Vincent Hospital, Lincoln Drug, Fallon Clinic, Harrington Hospital and St Elizabeth's Hospital before retiring. He was a devoted member of St. Stephen's Church and was a man of great faith. Raymond was a dedicated husband, a loving father and grandfather. He had a love for cars, numbers, horseracing and liked watching sports. He relished long talks over a glass of wine with family and friends, and the beauty of the White Mountains. He was a quiet, gentle man who cherished his family and most enjoyed just being with them. The funeral will be held Friday, October 23rd from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a Mass at 11:00 am in St. Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton St. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Thursday, October 22nd from 4 pm to 7 pm in the funeral home.
