John J Power

John J. Power, 86, of Shrewsbury passed away Friday, October 16th 2009 in the Umass Memorial healthcare Memorial campus after a brief illness. John was born August 19th 1923, in Youngstown Ohio, a son of Philip and Marie (Ream) Power. John came to Shrewsbury at the age of 2. He attended Shrewsbury schools, served his country proudly in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in Italy as a sergeant. He then returned to Shrewsbury to marry his sweetheart Gloria Carroll. Together they raised their three children and have lived in Shrewsbury all their lives. John is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years Gloria (Carroll) Power, his three children, John P. Power and his wife Wendy of Worcester, Teddy J. Power and his companion Debbie Bates: and Diane Power of Shrewsbury,; his four cherished grandchildren, Kelly Rizy and her husband Chris of Fiskdale, Kaitlin Reiss and her husband Michael of North Haven Conn, Kacie Power and John Power Jr. of Worcester; two great grandsons, Kyle and Mavrick Rizy; several nieces and nephews. A brother, Phillip Power pre deceased him. John worked as a Milk route driver many years for the Lungdren and Jonaitis Dairy in Shrewsbury before retiring. He previously delivered milk for the Weagle Dairy. John also drove a school bus in the afternoons for the Shrewsbury Athletic Department. John and his wife enjoyed his winters in Florida and his summers in Shrewsbury. He was also a sports fan. He enjoyed the Patriots, Redsox, Celtics and NASCAR. Funeral services and burial in Mt View Cemetery will be held privately. There are no calling hours. The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Worcester is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.
