Albert G Lazaro

Albert G. Lazaro, 84, a devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 29th 2009 surrounded by family. Albert was born February 8th 1925 in Cambridge, Ma a son of Samuel and Josephine Lazaro. He graduated from Cambridge High school , served his country proudly for eight years in the U.S. Navy during World War II, as a gunner's mate aboard the destroyer Beatty earning several medals and ribbons including the Victory Medal, American and European theatre ribbons. Upon returning home, Albert met and married his beloved wife Yvonne S. (Long) Lazaro. Together they lived and raised their family for 58 years in Worcester and Millbury. Albert was very much a devoted family man, who cherished being with and around them. He leaves behind, the love of his life for 58 years, Yvonne (Long) Lazaro ; his devoted and beloved six children, Albert G. Lazaro, Jr. and his wife Juliana of Grafton, Richard J. Lazaro and his wife Patricia of North Bellmore NY, James P. Lazaro of Worcester, Susan Witaszek and her husband Joseph of West Brookfield, Brenda A. McGrath of Millbury, and Linda C. Lazaro of Brockton; a sister, Mary Lazaro; two brothers, Richard Lazaro, Joseph Lazaro and his wife Elizabeth all of Worcester; nine adoring grandchildren; James Jr., Albert III, Michael, Alicia, Katie, William, Matthew, Richard Matthew and Carolyn; two adored great grandchildren, Aiden and Browan; many nieces, nephews extended family and friends who loved and will miss him dearly. A son, Albert, a granddaughter Marion and two brothers, George and Alfred all predeceased him. Albert worked more than 45 years as a Heavy Equipment operator for the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 4 for various construction companies including The Barletta Construction Corporation before retiring in 1987. Albert was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, and the IOUE Local 4. He enjoyed antiques, history and travel, but most of all just being with his family. The funeral will be held Saturday, October 3rd from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton St. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. A period of visitation will be held Saturday, October 3rd from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
