Vincent F. Gorgoglione, Sr., 90, formerly of 50 Shrewsbury St., Worcester, passed away in the Christopher House on Tuesday, September 15, 2009. His wife of sixty years, Mary (Peris) Gorgoglione, passed away in 2001. He is survived by his son, Vincent F. Gorgoglione, Jr. and his wife Christine of Leicester; his three daughters, Patricia Wassel of Worcester, Judith McLaughlin and her husband Gerald of Stanfield, NC and Elaine Sarsfield and her husband Alan of Albemarle, NC; a brother, Robert Gorgoglione of CT; a sister Pearl Corigliano of FL; fourteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; a brother In-law and good friend, Eugene Peris; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his three brothers; Michael, Anthony & Daniel Gorgoglione and three sisters, Angelina Nicastro, Jeanne Santainello and Elisa Merzigian. Vincent was born in Worcester, son of the late Nicola and Veneziana (Amorosa) Gorgoglione, and has lived here all his life. He served his nation proudly in the United States Army during World War II. He was a fourth grade technician for the 705th Engineers Petroleum Distribution Company stationed in Italy. Mr. Gorgoglione was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the Department of Administration and Finance Division of Capital Asset Management, retiring in 1982. He was Past Commander of the Italian American War Veterans Post 3, and was a member of the East Side American Legion Post 201. He was always politically active in the Worcester community and in recognition of his leadership and important work in the City of Worcester he was awarded a Key to the City. Vinny's most cherished moments were spending time with his family especially his adored grandchildren. Vincent's funeral will be held Friday, September 18th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel - St. Ann Church, 24 Mulberry St. Interment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to visit with the family from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, September 17th in the funeral home.
