L. Ron Hamilton, 71, of Worcester, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2009 in his home, surrounded by his loving family. Ron was born December 4, 1937 in the "Great Northwest", Vancouver, British Columbia, the son of Irwin and Ellen (Peterson) Hamilton. Ron entered the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and served aboard the USS Arcadia as a Canadian citizen. After his tour in the Navy, Ron was compelled to gain his U.S. Citizenship which he accomplished in 1964. Ron worked for many years as an Iron Worker, and then became a self employed contractor prior to his retirement in 2008. He is survived by his wife and best friend Judith "Judy" (Devio) Hamilton; his six adored children, James Hamilton and his wife Angela of Worcester, Stephen Hamilton and his wife Kristen of Waynesboro, PA, Lisa E. Schofield and her husband John of Sturbridge, Keith Hamilton and his wife Bridget of Worcester, Erica Moss and her husband Travis of Shelbyville Indiana, and Matthew Hamilton and his wife Melanie of Maine; thirteen cherished grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends. He enjoyed traveling with Judy, computers, deep sea fishing, watching sports especially tennis and tinkering around his home. Ron was known to be able to fix anything, a true handyman! The funeral will be held Thursday, September 17th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL; 370 Plantation St with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton St. Burial will be private. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours, Wednesday, September 16th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
