Joanna (Docimo) Fiore, 70, of Worcester passed away peacefully, Thursday, September 10, 2009 in her home surrounded by her cherished family after a year and a half battle with leukemia. Joanna was born, April 1, 1939, a daughter of Frank and Michelina (Protano) Docimo. She graduated from Commerce High School, and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from The Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing. Joanna worked as a Registered Nurse for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at Worcester State Hospital. She worked at several other area hospitals, nursing care facilities, and was a home healthcare and private duty nurse before retiring. She is survived by her devoted family including her loving husband of forty-five years, Matteo Fiore; her four children, Maria S. "Stella" Fiore, Michelina Salerno and her companion, Anthony DeCillis all of Worcester; Anthony Fiore of Malden and Matthew Fiore of Millbury; a dear family friend, Lisa Mulcahy of Malden; her inseparable seven sisters, Rose Christy, Diane Walsh, Judy Docimo, Jean Docimo and Jane Docimo all of Worcester, Carol Camarra of Sutton and Barbara Godek of Shrewsbury; three brothers, James Docimo of Worcester, Robert Docimo of Auburn, and Richard Docimo of West Brookfield; six grandchildren, Cristina, Matthew and Joseph LaCourse, Elisa and Nick Salerno, and Matthew Fiore, Jr.; two great grandchildren, Trinity and Zachary Gustafson; many nieces and nephews. Joanna was a kind and loving person, who was loved tremendously in return by her family and friends. She enjoyed the closeness of family gatherings, and the quiet times shared between herself and her best friend and love, Matteo. Her easy smile and caring ways will be remembered for many years to come. The funeral for Joanna will be held Saturday, September 12, from MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Ann Church, 24 Mulberry Street, Worcester. Entombment will follow in Saint John's Mausoleum. Calling hours for Joanna will be held Today, Friday, September 11, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
