Betty Ann (Benson) Suliman, 79, passed away nobly and peacefully at 5:27 a.m. September 5th 2009 in Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Home, at University Commons, in Worcester after a five year battle with breast cancer. Betty's husband of 54 years, Douglas M. Suliman, Sr. passed away in March of 2006; She is survived by her three children: Dianne Marie of Shrewsbury who was Betty's loving care giver, Douglas M. Suliman, Jr. and his wife, Patricia of Sherborn, Lynne Prefontaine and her partner Daniel Raymond of Dudley. Betty is also survived by her five beloved grandchildren, Jessica of Los Angeles CA, daughter of Dianne, Michaela of Boston, John of Virginia, Thomas and Joseph of Sherborn, the four children of Douglas and Patricia; A close family friend, Steven A. Christopher of Shrewsbury; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Three brothers, Harold, William and Raymond Benson also pre deceased her. She was born in Millbury, on August 23, 1930, the daughter of Richard William and Alma Eva' (Miron) Benson. She lived her childhood on Vernon Hill, in Worcester, graduated from Commerce High School and the Salter School of Business. After her marriage to Douglas they moved to Oxford where they raised their family. Betty worked for many years as Office Manager for Atlas Distributors, before retiring in 1992. She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies, Auburn MA. She was a wonderful cook and baker, and extremely proud of her home and of her interior decorating skills. Betty will be remembered for the numerous family parties she and her husband Douglas hosted over the years. She loved and was loved by her family and her many friends. A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, September 10th at 11:00 a.m in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Worcester. Entombment in Notre Dame Mausoleum will be private.
