James Louis English, 77, of Worcester passed away Sunday, September 6, 2009, in the Beaumont at University Commons Skilled Nursing Center surrounded by his family. James was born October 5th 1932, in Patterson, N.J., son of the late James L. and Elzena (Brewer) English. James lived in Patterson, served his country in the U.S. Army during the latter end of World War II; he then lived in Cambridge, Massachusetts and 9 years in Euclid, Ohio, before settling in Worcester. James worked many years as a supervisor for the Picker X-Ray manufacturing company before retiring. He then worked several years for the Peter Pan Bus lines as a driver. James is survived by his wife Daisy R. (Turner) English, four sons, James English Jr. of Whitman, Mass, David English of Cambridge, Marquese English and Willie Kusi both of Worcester; two daughters, Karen English in Boston and Leslie R. English in Cambridge; a brother, Rudy Whitaker in Patterson N.J.; two sisters, Jean Holmes of Rochdale and Ann Sears of Williamsburg Va.; nine grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. A son Jeffrey English and a brother, John "Jack" Whitaker pre deceased him. A brother in law, Matthew Holmes passed away Thursday, September 3rd 2009. James was a member of Belmont A.M.E. Zion Church, and the J.Edmonds, J Haynes VFW Post 312. He enjoyed sports, fishing, Bingo, playing cards, puttering around the house and traveling. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 11th at 10 a.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Burial with military honors will be in the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery in Winchendon. A period of visitation will be held Friday September 11th from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the funeral home.
