Lydia E. Ortiz Torres, 84 of Worcester passed away Saturday, August 22nd 2009 surrounded by her devoted family. Lydia was born December 7th 1924, in Humacao, Puerto Rico, a daughter of Hebaristo Ortiz and Lucia Sanchez. She has lived in Puerto Rico, New York and Worcester. Lydia worked as an assembler for the former Harrington-Richardson Arms Company. She also worked for several companies in both Puerto Rico, New York and Worcester. Lydia is survived by her devoted son, Daniel Diaz, Jr. and his wife Marta with whom she lived; four daughters, Carmen I. Diaz, Maria Diaz and her husband Rynaldo Vellez, Mercedes Diaz and her husband Moses Oyola all of Worcester and Ana E. Diaz and her husband Raymond Irizarry in Puerto Rico; two brothers, Enrique Ortiz in Worcester and Diego Ortiz in Puerto Rico; four sisters, Carmen Julia Ortiz in Puerto Rico, Maria V. Ortiz in California Ana V. Ortiz and Tita Ortiz both in Worcester; two stepsons Hector and Ruben Diaz both of Worcester; four stepdaughter Ana V. Diaz of Worcester, Miriam, Pricilla, and Migdalia Munoz of Manhattan, NY; more than twenty seven grandchildren, many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews' cousins and friends. Two sons, Jose Ramon and Antonio Diaz and a stepson Edwin Diaz all predeceased her. Lydia was a member of St. Joan of Arc Church. She enjoyed Knitting, crafts, playing Domino's and Bingo. But she most enjoyed being with her family. The funeral will be held Thursday, August 27th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Church, 570 Lincoln St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, August 26th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. In the funeral home.
