Edgar A. Swift, 81, a longtime resident of Warren, passed away Monday, August 10, 2009 in his home. He was born May 26, 1928 in Boston to Anthony and Helen (Kavetsky) Swiszewski. He graduated from Worcester's South High School in 1946; and shortly thereafter, joined the Army Air Corp, where he served his nation proudly and followed his passion for flying. Edgar was a pilot at 16, and was awarded free flying lessons from the Worcester Air Patrol for his outstanding achievements. Following his discharge from the Air Corp in 1950 he matriculated into Cornell University, and transferred to M.I.T. in 1952, where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. Edgar then worked for Owens Illinois, Inc for over twenty years. He was a Mason at both The Quinsigamond Lodge in Worcester and Quaboag Lodge in Warren. Edgar is survived by his two daughters, Brenda Peacock of Stow and Judith Swift Mitchell of Harvard; a brother Kenneth Swift of Shrewsbury; and four grandchildren. A brother, Clyde Swift predeceased him. Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 21st from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. A prayer service will be held at 6 PM in the funeral home by the Grand Lodge of Masons.
