Gaetano A. "Guy" Mattero, 73, of Shrewsbury, a noted area Stone Mason, passed away Sunday, August 9th 2009 in his home surrounded by his family. Guy was born November 13th 1935, in Vieste Foggia, Italy, one of nine children of Pasquale and Angelina (Bosco) Mattero. Guy came to Worcester over 55 years ago. Guy then met and married his devoted wife RoseMarie (DiRoberto) Mattero, 49 years ago and they moved to Shrewsbury in 1978 to live and raise their family. Guy owned and operated Guy Mattero Masonry for the last 49 years. He was most sought after for his unique design work and particular attention to detail. His work was some of the most artistic and unique work in the area. Besides his devoted wife, Guy is survived by his cherished children, Paula Aiello, Roseann Dumas and her husband Richard, Gina Cooney and her husband Michael all of Shrewsbury; his five adored grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Aiello, Jonathan Dumas, Griffin and Kasey Cooney; four brothers, Vincent and Antonio "Tony" Mattero both in Shrewsbury; Salvatore and Agustino Mattero in Vieste Italy; four sisters, Christina Mastrogiacomo and Catherina Nardella both of Shrewsbury, Maria Soldano and Anna Gentile both inn Vieste Italy; many nieces, nephews and friends. A granddaughter, Lynsey Rose Cooney passed away in 1996. Guy was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Parish, the former ITAM Club, and the Italian American Victory Club. But, most of all his family was his inspiration and devotion. He cherished them, and adored being around and with them. They were truly his life's inspiration. The funeral will be held Thursday, August 13th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Wednesday, August 12th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
