Mary A. (Davolio) Lombardi, 92, of Shrewsbury passed away peacefully in the home of her daughter Tuesday, July 7th 2009 surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born, August 7th 1916, in Worcester, one of eight children of Italian immigrants, Eustachio and Rose (Poeta) Davolio and has been a lifelong resident of Shrewsbury. In 1942, she married Arthur J. Lombardi, and enjoyed 47 wonderful years together before his passing in 1989. Mary is survived by her daughter and best friend Carol M. Abraham and her husband Robert; a devoted and cherished granddaughter, Kelly Abraham all of Shrewsbury; along with many adoring nieces, nephews and a host of extended family. Mary was predeceased by three sisters, Julia Lapponese, Josephine and Ann Davolio, and four brothers, Frank, Dominic, Joseph and Leo Davolio. She was a member of St. Anne Church. Mary was famous among family and friends for her incredible home-style Italian cooking and baking skills. She always answered any call to bake her amazing chocolate cake for any occasion. She will also be remembered as strong, caring woman that always put family and friends ahead of her own interests. Mary was particularly fond of spending time with family during the Holidays. The funeral will be held Saturday, July 11th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a Mass at 12 noon in St. Anne Church, 170 Boston Turnpike Rd. Burial next to her husband will be in Mt View Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to a period of calling hours, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home prior to the mass. The family requests that flowers be omitted.
