Julia Rose (Morello) Scalzo, 93, of Shrewsbury Street in Worcester, passed away, Friday, June 26, 2009 in Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation. Her husband, Salvatore Scalzo, pre-deceased her in February 2002. She is survived by a brother, Robert Morello of Shrewsbury; two sisters, Rita Limoli and Mary Reymond both of Worcester; many nieces and nephews. She was also pre-deceased by a son, Philip Scalzo, three brothers, Joseph, John, and Michael Morello as well as a sister, Helen Esip. Julia Rose was born in Worcester, the daughter of Michael and Christine (Scarcello) Morello and has lived here all her life Mrs. Scalzo worked as an office assistant for the City of Worcester for fifteen years, before she retired. She had previously worked for New York-Worcester Freight Company. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Ann Parish and it's Golden Years group. She was a founding member of the Beato Angelo d'Acri Society. Julia and her husband had a passion for travelling. Together they took several cross country trips, visited almost every resort in New England, and spent one month a year in Florida with a large group of friends. Her greatest joy was preparing holiday feasts with her family and on many occasions entertained 75 to 100 people for dinner. She was a loving woman who was devoted to her brothers and sister and her nieces and nephews. Her family wishes to thank the entire staff as well as the residents of the Dodge Park Rest Home, for their loving care and giving Julia a home away from home. They would also like to thank the staff at Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation, for the care and love they shared. A special thanks is extended to the wonderful people at the Holy Trinity Hospice Group for giving her comfort in her last days. The funeral will be held Monday, June 29, from MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Ann Church, 24 Mulberry Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours will be held Sunday, June 28, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Ann Church of the Italian Cultural Center in care of the church, 24 Mulberry Street, Worcester, MA 01605
