Alice M. (Sweeney) Dwyer, 84, a longtime resident of Worcester, passed away peacefully, Monday, June 22, 2009, in Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, surrounded by her devoted and loving family. Alive is survived by her husband of 62 years, William Dwyer; her three children, William J. Dwyer Jr. and his wife Janet of Franklin, Michael P. Dwyer and his wife Michelle of Grafton and Elaine Dwyer of Natick; a brother Arthur Sweeney of Nottingham, England, two sisters Agnes Dervan of Worcester and Pauline Burns of Ayer; three grandchildren, Michael, Juliet and Kevin. Two brothers, John and Edward Sweeney and two Sisters, Mae Sweeney and Catherine Walenty predecease her. Alice was born in Boston, daughter of the late John H. and Mary J. (Russell) Sweeney and graduated from Dorchester High School for Girls. Alice enjoyed table tennis and at one time captured the title for Women's Single Champion of New England Division. Alice's funeral will be held Friday, June 26th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Notre Dame du Lac ~ Assisted Living, 555 Plantation Street, Worcester. Friends and family are invited to visit with the family from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 25th in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery located in Winchendon.
