Josephine P. (Astrella) Evangelista, 84, of Worcester, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at UMass Hospital, with her loving family by her side. Her husband, Joseph J. Evangelista, pre-deceased her in 1990. She is survived by her loving children, John A. Evangelista and his wife Paula F. Evangelista of Shrewsbury and Jodi A. Venuti and her husband Arthur J. Venuti of Worcester; two brothers, James Astrella of Holden and Nicholas Astrella of Worcester; a sister, Dolores Rossetti of Shrewsbury; two grandsons, Nicholas and Joseph Evangelista; two step-grandchildren, Courtney and Christopher Venuti; many nieces and nephews. She was pre deceased by three brothers and three sisters, Andrew, Rocco, and Frank Astrella, Ann Ducharme, Phyllis Vacca and Victoria Gonya. Born in Worcester, daughter of James Rocco and Josephine (Vinzi) Astrella, she graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester, and has lived here all her life. Mrs. Evangelista worked as a line supervisor at the former G.E. Telecron Company. She was a member of the former Saint Margaret Mary Parish, and was attending Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Ann. She belonged to the Frohsinn Club, the Town and Country Bowling League, and the former Rose Club. The funeral for Josephine will be held Friday, June 19, from MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Ann Church, 24 Mulberry Street, Worcester. Entombment will follow in Saint John's Mausoleum. Calling hours will be held tonight, Thursday, June 18, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
