Edmund B. Hebert, a thirty-five year resident of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 7, 2009, surrounded by his wife and loving family, after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. He was a proud and stoic man who loved and enjoyed his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife, Dolores "Dolly" M. (Borowski) Hebert, with whom he would have celebrated fifty-four years of marriage today. He also leaves his daughter, Kathleen A. Kender and her fiancé George C. Dion both of Shrewsbury; a son, Stephen B. Hebert and his wife Susan of Whitinsville; a brother, William Hebert and his wife Jane of Worcester; four grandchildren, Matthew Hebert and his wife Nicole, Katelyn Kender, Christopher Hebert, and Lauren Kender; nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was born in Worcester, son of Joseph and Margaret (Walsh) Hebert; and graduated from Worcester's South High School. "Big Ed" worked for thirty-seven years as a scale technician for Worcester Scale, before he retired in 1998. He was a member of Saint Anne's Roman Catholic Church. He was an associate member of The Main South American Legion Post in Worcester, a member of the Greendale Retired Men's Club, The National Scalemen's Association. He was active with the Joe Schwartz Little League for many years, and served as League President from 1968-1974. He enjoyed working in his yard, new cars, The Red Sox, The Patriots, ten pin bowling, golfing, Las Vegas, and "The wonder of it all". The funeral for Edmund will be held Thursday, June 11, from MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester with a Mass at 10 a.m. celebrated by his brother-in-law, Reverend Charles E. Borowski, in Saint Anne's Church, 120 Boston Turnpike Road (route 9), Shrewsbury. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, June 10, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
