Nicholas V. DiLeo, 77, of Worcester, a retired Worcester Police Officer, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 26th 2009 surrounded by his family. Nicholas is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lillian U. (Daniels) DiLeo; two sons, Nicholas V. DiLeo, Jr. and his wife Janet in South Carolina, Paul A. DiLeo and his partner Denis DuBerger of Melrose; a daughter Tina M. DiLeo of Worcester; A brother, Vincent DiLeo and his wife Beverly of Worcester; two sisters, Lucy Eramo of Worcester and Cecile Pinkham in California; two cherished grandchildren, Peter N. and Jennifer C. DiLeo; many nieces and nephews. A sister, Mary DiLeo predeceased him. Nick was born in Worcester his parents were the late Diego and Antoinette (Colonna) DiLeo. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School, and served his country in the U.S. Navy, during the Korean War. Nick then earned an associate's degree in criminal justice from Quinsigamond Community College. Nicholas worked for the City of Worcester more than 18 years a Police Officer before retiring due to illness in 1979. He was a member of Our Lady of Loreto Church, the International Brotherhood of Police Officers Union, the Massachusetts Police Association, the Worcester Police Relief Association, and the Auburn Wellness Club. He was a member of the former Auburn Sportsman Club. Nick loved to play racquet ball. The funeral will be held Friday, May 29th from the MERCADANTE FUNERALL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Loreto Church, 37 Massasoit Rd. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family, Thursday, May 28th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
