Kurt "Rick" Rickheit, 45, a decorated soldier, of Worcester, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2009 in the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence, surrounded by loving family. He leaves his wife, Lee-Ann (Abbott) Rickheit; three step sons, Joshua Brady, Adam and Michael Boaz; his father, Alan Rickheit of New Hampshire; three loving brothers Erich, George, and Hans Rickheit; his father in law and mother in law, Alan and Dale (Bissonnette) Abbott of Worcester; a brother in law, Alan Abbott, Jr. of Connecticut; a sisters in law, Leslie Abbott of Worcester; many close friends; his "family" at Rotman's; nieces and nephews. Rick was born in Worcester, son of the late Josephine (Della'Aquila) Rickheit, and graduated from a Worcester high school, he then attended Central Texas College. He served his nation in the United States Army and served in the Middle East. He was awarded the Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Hand Grenade Expert Badge, M16 Rifle Exert Badge, The Army Achievement Medal, Expert Infantryman Badge, Air Assault Badge, and the Multi National Forces Medal. Rick worked for Rotman's Furniture for many years, and was very comfortable and happy with the "family" that surrounded him at work. He enjoyed cooking, and always had the most positive attitude. He lived life to the fullest and enjoyed all those he came in contact with. A Funeral Service for Rick will be held Wednesday, May 27, at 7 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the funeral home, immediately prior to the service.
