Emil J. Salem passed away May 14, 2009 at home surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was a native of Worcester, MA and resident of Shrewsbury, MA and Juno Beach, FL. Emil was a CPA, a graduate of New England School of Accounting, and employed by Peat Marwick Mitchell, American Standard Company, and the David Clark Company. For most of Emil's life, he was self-employed CPA, providing financial assistance to several of the area's manufacturing businesses. He was a published author on the subject of cost accounting, and had taught financial management seminars to many of the area's manufacturing business leaders. Emil also was very generous volunteering his time and financial skills to local charities and non-profit organizations including St. John's High School, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, and Worcester Youth Hockey. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Worcester. Emil served in the US Navy during WWII in the Pacific Far East. Emil leaves his wife of 51 years Grace Capoccia Salem, daughter Francine Salem Rooney and her husband Tom of Boylston, MA and three sons; John Salem and his wife Susan of Tolland, CT; Paul Salem and his wife Navyn of Barrington, RI; and Andrew Salem and his wife Kelly of Boston, MA. Emil also leaves 10 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Edward Salem of Millbury, MA and Pawtucket, RI and his sister Mae Awad of Waterford, CT. Emil is remembered for his love of his family, his positive outlook on life, and his strong faith. Emil was the happiest man in the world. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4-6 PM on Sunday, May 17th in the Mercadante Funeral Home, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA. Emil's funeral will be held on Monday, May 18 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 256 Hamilton Street, Worcester, MA.
