Nicholas P. Stefanou, 74, of Worcester, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2009, in his home with loving family at his side. He is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years, Kathleen A. (Wall) Stefanou; a son, Peter N. Stefanou of Fort Lauderdale; two daughters, Niki Carabetta and his son in law Sam Carabetta of Meriden, CT and Stefany Haddad Stefanou of Worcester; six grandchildren, Sammy, Niko, Anthony, Joseph and Lili Carabetta, and Isaiah Haddad Stefanou; as well as nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Constantine Stefanou. Nicholas was born in Torrington, Connecticut the son of Peter N. and Mary (Dillon) Stefanou, and was raised in West Hartford, before moving to Worcester over forty-five years ago. Mr. Stefanou graduated from Hall's High School in West Hartford, and later served his nation in the United States Air National Guard, stationed in Colorado. Although he retired as a property manager and apartment owner, his passion was the restaurant business. For many years prior to retirement he owned and operated restaurants in Connecticut and Massachusetts, including Aetna Diner, Tridon Restaurant, and Stefan's all in Hartford, as well as Joker's Four Nightclub and Restaurant in Hopkinton, MA and Nick's Happy Hour in Tyngsboro, MA. Nicholas was a master mason and member of the Worcester Quinsigamond Lodge of Masons and the Greek Orthodox American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 13, at 7:30 p.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., immediately prior to the funeral service.
