Rev. Joseph A. Adamo, 62, a catholic Priest for the Diocese of Worcester and former Pastor of Ascension Parish, passed away Monday, April 20th 2009 in St. Mary Hospital West Palm Beach Florida after a brief illness. Father Adamo was born in Boston, a son of Anthony and Rose (Marino) Adamo. He grew up in Waltham, earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in theology from Catholic University in Washington, DC. He studied for the priesthood at St Thomas Seminary in Connecticut and Our Lady of the Angel's Seminary in Albany, NY. Father Adamo was ordained by Bishop Bernard Flanagan in 1973, He ministered to parishioners of the Diocese of Worcester at several churches in including St Patrick Whitinsville, St Andrew the Apostle, and Christ the King in Worcester, Immaculate Heart of Mary in Winchendon, and St Joseph in Auburn. In 1994, Father Adamo was assigned as pastor of Ascension Parish in Worcester until his retirement in 2008. From 1980 to 1983, Father Adamo served the students of Mt Wauchesett Community College as Campus Priest. He was a member of The Knights of the Holy Sepulchre. He is survived by a sister, Rosemarie Adamo in Arlington and a niece Sara Freedman; many friends, fellow priests and extended family including Fr. Joseph Marcotte, Fr. Conrad Pecevich, Fr. Henry Albek, Sandra Fresolo- Skrzek, her husband Peter, their children Amy, Joseph and Michael and the entire Fresolo Family whom he considered his family. The funeral for Father Adamo will be held Saturday, April 25th at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Bishop Robert J. McManus will be principal celebrant. Father Adamo will be laid to rest with his parents Monday April 27th in Mt Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge. Father Adamo will lay in state Friday, April 26th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Auxiliary Bishop George E. Ruegar will celebrate a vigil service Friday at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Fr Adamo's Name to the scholarship program care of Wauchsett Community College, Gardner Mass.
