Mary A. (Giabatti) Mattress, 90, of Worcester passed away peacefully, Friday, April 10th 2009 surrounded by her family. Mary's husband of 50 years, Raymond F. Mattress passed away in 1989. She is survived by her devoted children, Anna May Laurin and her husband Lawrence of Princeton, Raymond F. Mattress, Jr. and his wife Judith of Worcester; six adored grandchildren, Raymond Mattress III, Catherine Dadah, Lynne Moore, Mary Sampson, Michael Laurin and Jennifer Bushey; seven cherished great grandchildren; three sisters, Victoria Rossi, and Joan Savage, both of Worcester, and Antoinette O'Leary of Auburn, nieces and nephews. Three sisters, Frances Cammuso, Amelia Catino, and Josephine Flanders pre deceased her. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Egidio and Vincenza (Savona) Giabatti. Mary graduated from Worcester Girls Trade and has lived here all her life. She worked for the City of Worcester School Department as a baker at Burncoat Junior High before retiring and previously worked as a seamstress for Leader and New England Manufacturing, Richard Healy and Marcus's. After retirement Mary used her sewing skills creating Bridal Gowns and many hand sewn gifts. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Mary was a devoted mother, grandmother who cherished caring for her family, and enjoyed their company. Mary's funeral will be held Wednesday, April 15th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton St. Burial will follow in St John Cemetery. A period of visitation will be held Wednesday, April 15th from 9:30 to 10:30 am prior to the funeral.
