James W. Tavano, 68, of Lake Avenue, passed away Wednesday, April 1st 2009 in his home surrounded by his family. James is survived by his wife, Janet M. (Georgio) Reilly-Tavano; a son, Marcello G. Tavano and his wife Joanne of Hubbardston; a daughter, Gina M. Tavano and her fiancé Jospeh Lebeau; his former wife of 30 years, Assunta "Suzie" V. (Mischitelli) Tavano; a brother, Frank Tavano; two sisters, Gloria Donahue and Victoria Kardokas all of Worcester; three grandchildren, Santino, Dominique, and Anthony; a step granddaughter, Julia Rose Reilly; many nieces and nephews; James was born in Worcester, son of Guisto R. and Maria (Pavau) Tavano, and has lived here all his life. He graduated from Commerce High School. He then served his nation proudly in the United States Army, during the Korean War era. Mr. Tavano worked as a building manager for Rosewood Management, having previously managed The Glass Tower in Worcester. He also worked as the head of maintenance at the former Worcester Center Galleria. James was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Ann Church. He was a former coach and commissioner for Jack Barry Little League as well as a coach for the Burncoat Senior Babe Ruth League. He enjoyed being involved with local politics and was an avid hunter and fisherman. The funeral for Mr. Tavano will be held Saturday, April 4th , from MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Ann Church, 24 Mulberry Street, Worcester. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held Friday, April 3rd , from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
