Joseph A. Inangelo, 98, of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, in The Rose Monahan Hospice Home. Born on March 21, 1911, the son of Italian immigrants, Frank and Lucia (Armenti) Inangelo, he was a lifelong resident of Worcester. His loving wife of 52 years, Julia (Francesco) Inangelo, died in 1984. He leaves three sons, Frank Inangelo and his partner Marylin Queen of Hudson, MA, John Inangelo and his wife Patricia of Rutland, MA, Robert Inangelo and his wife Margaret of Worcester, a daughter, Alberta Inangelo of Oxford, MA; a daughter-in-law Elaine Simone of Worcester; a sister Margaret Pascarella of Long Island, NY; his close friend, Victoria Hagopian, 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by three brothers, George, John and Merino Inangelo, as well as four sisters, Rose Adua, Phyllis Razzano, Grace Soto, Mary Inangelo, and his granddaughter, Maria Inangelo. Joe retired from Norton Company Abrasives in 1974 after 23 years. A baker by trade, he worked for Gentile's Bakery, D'Amico's Boston Bread and Kimball Hall at The College of the Holy Cross. He served with the 181st Infantry Division of the Massachusetts National Guard. During WWII, he served with the U.S. Navy, stationed in England during European Theater of Operations. With his passion for motorcycles, Joe often took to the open road on his Gold Wing, before retiring his bike at the age of 86. He loved to dance, listen to the Italian classics of Caruso and Mario Lanza, and he loved being surrounded by his grand and great grand kids who affectionately knew him as Grampy. He will always be remembered for his strong will and independent spirit. His children express their deepest appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, the VNA Care Network & Hospice and St. Vincent Hospital. Calling hours will be held Thursday, March 26, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA 01605. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 27 at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church on 353 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. The family asks that flowers be omitted.
