Gloria M. (Joseph) Swydan, 86, of Worcester passed away Monday, March 16, 2009 in the Memorial Hospital with her daughter at her side. Gloria's husband of 44 years, Herbert S. Swydan, passed away in 1992. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Lorice A. Swydan, with whom she lived; a brother, Richard Joseph of Ormond Beach Florida; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and friends. A brother, Philip Joseph and a sister Lorice Joseph pre deceased her. Gloria was born in Lawrence a daughter of Ned and Sadie (Abisalih) Joseph. She graduated from Lawrence High School and has lived here most of her life. Gloria worked more than 10 years as an inspector for Sprague Electric before retiring. She also volunteered her time for the American Red Cross, the RSVP, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, the Morgan Retirees Club, and her church St. George Orthodox Cathedral. Gloria was an active, devoted member of St George Orthodox Cathedral. She sang in its choir, belonged to its Women's Club, regularly attended church services, and assisted at its functions. Gloria loved socializing with her friends, dining out, and the company, care and compassion of her daughter. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 18th at 11:00 a.m. in St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna St. Burial will follow next to her husband in Hope Cemetery. A period of visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers memorial contribution may be made to St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna St. Worcester, 01604.
