Robert J. Osper, 76, of Boylston, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 7th 2009 in his home. Robert is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia (Curran) Osper; three daughters, Marion Young and her husband Michael of Sturbridge, Joanne Hilyard and her husband Jeffery of Worcester, Becky Adams and her husband George of Boylston; a brother, Jack Osper of Spencer; a sister, Mary Lou Hoey of Shrewsbury; two cherished grandchildren, Amanda and Kristine Young; nieces and nephews. Robert was born in Worcester; his parents were the late John and Gladys (Charbonneau) Osper. He graduated from Commerce High School and attended classes at Worcester State College. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry during the Korean War. Robert and Patricia have lived in Boylston more than 46 years. Robert worked many years as a Telephone Technician for New England Telephone and AT&T before retiring in 1995. He was an active member and church greeter of St. Mary of the Hills Church for many years. He was a member of the Telephone "Pioneers" Association where he coached a blind softball team. Robert was a loving, generous man who loved to golf with his friends, garden, play cards, paint and jog. Most of all his family was his life, especially his children and grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Robert's funeral will be held Tuesday, March 10th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary of the Hills Church, 630 Cross St. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Monday, March 9th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
