Lorraine M. (Oleski) Farrell, 71, of Worcester, passed away Monday, March 2, 2009 unexpectedly in her home. Her husband, Matthew W. Farrell passed away in 1987. Lorraine is survived by her three sons, Dwaine Farrell of Honolulu, HI, Michael J. Farrell and his wife Linda of Worcester and David M. Farrell and his fiancé Irene Lactot of RI; three daughters, Patricia Azzarone of Worcester, Cindy and her husband Gordon Whitehead of Worcester and Cheryl Latka of Barre; a brother, John Oleski of Sturbridge; two sisters, Kathy Nowlan of Long beach, CA and Debarah and her husband Rob Butts of Glenview, IL; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren; three step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She leaves a lifelong friend Uncle "Billy". A daughter, Kathleen Dube, a son, Patrick Farrell as well as a sister Eleanor Mikolajczyk predeceased her. Lorraine was born in Worcester, daughter of John and Stephine (Smeagle) Oleski and has lived here all her life. She graduated from St. Marys Central Catholic High School. Ms. Farrell was in the nursing profession since 1968 working at several area hospitals. She retired in 1982 from Rutland Heights State Hospital. She was a member of the Retired State, County and Municipal Employees Association of Massachusetts. Ms. Farrell received her LPN from David Hale Fanning Trade School in 1968 and went on with her most loved profession of nursing and graduated from Mount Wachusett Community College earning her RN degree additionally receiving the Who's Who Award and was commended for receiving the highest State Board Exam marks ever in the State of Massachusetts. Lorraine was the heart of her family and enjoyed being with her friends and relatives, and will be missed dearly by all the lives she had touched. She was a generous contributor to countless charitable organizations and enjoyed crossword puzzles and crocheting. A funeral service will be held Friday, March 6th at 6:00 pm in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street. Calling hours will be from 5:00 pm until 6:00pm prior to her funeral service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers a Memorial Gift can be made in Lorraine's name to St. Labre Indian School, Ashland, Montana 59004.
