Liberto "Al" Spaziante, 70, formerly of Worcester passed away Tuesday, February 24th 2009, surrounded by his family. Al's wife of 36 years Theresa J. (Lupien) Spaziante passed away in 1995. He is survived by his devoted son, Paul A. Spaziante and his wife Teresa Benoit of Northboro; a brother, Frank Spaziante, Jr. of Auburn; two sisters, Elena Ganem of Methuen and Ann Spaziante of Worcester; four grandchildren, Brittany N., Nicole T., Luke S. and Sierra L.; nieces and nephews. A sister, Marie T. Sacco and a brother, Anthony F. Spaziante pre deceased him. Al was born in Worcester, a son of Frank and Filomena (Vigliotti) Spaziante. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade where his was a standout baseball player earning All-City honors. He has lived in Worcester and Shrewsbury. Al worked as a Service Technician for the Commonwealth Gas Co. more than 38 years before retiring. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church. A simple, quiet man who cherished his family and especially his grandchildren. They were his life. Al was also an avid Red Sox fan. Al's funeral will be held Thursday, February 26th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL; 370 Plantation St. with a mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will follow next to his wife in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Wednesday, February 25th from 4 p.m to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
