Barbara R. (Costello) Rising, 86, of Worcester, passed away Monday, February 23rd 2009, surrounded by her family. Barbara's husband of 50 years Paul W. Rising passed away in 2000. She is survived by her devoted daughters, Margaret E. Rising of Wheelwright; Katharine A. Olen and her husband Stephen of Worcester; an adored sister, June Liberty of Shrewsbury; seven cherished grandchildren, Daniel, Christopher, Benjamin, Caitlyn, Michael, Colleen and Kevin; many nieces and nephews. A son, Matthew P. Rising passed away in 1980. Barbara was born in Worcester a daughter of Coleman J. and Katherine (Rodier) Costello. She graduated from Commerce High School, worked several years as an Office Assistant for the U.S. Government at the Pentagon before returning home to work in the same capacity many years for Wyman-Gordon Company before retiring. Barbara also volunteered her time in a variety of capacities to several organizations. Barbara was a member of St. Joan of Arc Church; she enjoyed reading, gardening, swimming, sewing, and knitting. She also enjoyed the beaches of Maine, the Cape, and the Mountains of Vermont. Barbara was a fan of the Boston Red Sox, Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. Most of all she enjoyed being with her grandchildren and daughters. They were her life. The funeral will be held Thursday, February 26th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Church, 570 Lincoln St. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Wednesday, February 25th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
