Paul Savastano, 87, of the Cherry Valley section of Leicester, passed away, peacefully, Friday, February 20, 2009, in The Meadows of Leicester. Paul is survived by his wife and best friend, Anna (Titta) Savastano; a son, Paul J. Savastano of Worcester; a daughter, Joyce Barbale and her husband John N. Barbale, Jr. of Auburn; three grandchildren, Paul T. Savastano and Shawn Barbale both of Worcester and Wendy Crockett of Cherry Valley; two great granddaughters, Lauren and Olivia; nieces and nephews including, Ron Savastano of Marietta, Georgia, Ted Savastano of Canton, Ohio, and Frank Savastano of Coral Springs, Florida. He was pre-deceased by three brothers and two sisters, Joseph, John, Philip and Mary Savastano and Lucy Masiello. Paul was born in Worcester, the son of Frank and Natalie (Santora) Savastano, and graduated from Worcester Boy's Trade School. He later served his nation in the United States Army, during World War II. Mr. Savastano worked in the maintenance department of the former State Mutual Insurance Company, for many years, before he retired. He was a member of Christ Baptist Church in Worcester, where he served as a Deacon, sang in the choir, and was a church trustee. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Paul's family will forever be grateful to the wonderful, caring staff at The Meadows. They became part of our family, throughout this difficult time. The funeral for Paul will be held Tuesday, February 24, at 11 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery. A calling hour will be held Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., immediately prior to the funeral service.
