Francis J. "Franny" Turo, 62, of Shrewsbury, long time owner of Leo's Ristorante died peacefully but unexpectedly Thursday February 19, 2009 at home. He is survived by his loving family; his wife of 39 years Rosemary (Nygard) Turo, a son Christopher J. Turo and his wife Gillian of Worcester, a daughter Lee M. Hanson and her husband Andrew of Shrewsbury a brother Marc S. Turo of Shrewsbury, and three grandchildren Alyssa, Madison, and Brooke. Francis is also survived by two uncles Francis Turo and Edward Burnham, and several nieces and nephews. Franny was born in Worcester son of the late Leo and Shirley (Burnham) Turo and has lived here all his life. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy and attended Boston State College.He started working at Leo's along with his father when he was eighteen years old and took over the Restaurant when Leo died. He enjoyed being with people and was the consummate host. Francis was a life member of Our Lady Of Mt Carmel-St Ann Church and served on its Financial Committee. He could always be counted on for his generosity to the church and many other causes. Franny loved being with his family especially his grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time at Cape Cod. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Francis's funeral will be held Monday from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 370 Plantation St. with a Mass of Christian burial at 11AM in Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel-St Ann Church 24 Mulberry St.Calling hours in the funeral home are from 4-7PM on Sunday. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery Shrewsbury, Contributions may be made to Our Lady Of Mt Carmel-St Ann Church 24 Mulberry St or a charity of choice.
