Date: Monday, February 09, 2009 Contact: Stephen, 508-754-0486 Comments: photo attached Dateline: Worcester Anthony Carlantuono, 89, of Stanton Street in Worcester, passed away, Sunday, February 8, 2009 in the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence in Worcester. His loving wife, Elizabeth (Ferro) Carlantuono, passed away in April 2006. Anthony is survived by two daughters, Julie D'Andrea and her husband Joseph, and Felice Lorden all of Worcester; three grandchildren, Brian D'Andrea of Worcester, Kelly McGuirk and her husband Matthew of Boston, and Matthew D'Andrea of Worcester; several nieces and nephews. A sister Josephine Pasquale pre-deceased him. He was born in Avellino, Italy son of Pompilio and Filomena (Barbarina) Carlantuono, and emigrated to The United States when he was fifteen years old. He then served in The United States Army during World War II, as an Italian translator. Mr. Carlantuono worked as a mechanic for the City of Worcester for twenty years, before he retired. He had previously worked for Pullman Standard Company in Worcester. When he was living in Italy, he had studied cabinet making, and used that skill while working as a carpenter and cabinet maker here in the United States. He was a member of The Retired State County and Municipal Employees Association, AARP, Mount Carmel Church Golden Years, the Greendale Retired Men's Club and the Knights of Columbus Pope John Council 5481, where he was also a Fourth Degree Knight with the Bishop O'Reilly Council. He loved spending time with his family, and enjoyed the lively conversations about sports and politics. The funeral will be held Wednesday, February 11, from MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, with a Mass at 11:30 a.m. in Saint John's Church, 40 Temple Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. in the funeral home, immediately prior to departing for church. Members of the Pope John Council Knights of Columbus, will gather at the funeral home at 10 a.m. to perform a ritual.
