Anne P. (Shea) Flynn, 90, of Norton Ma, formerly of 362 Coburn Ave Worcester, passed away Saturday February 7th 2009 in Norton, surrounded by her family. A Worcester native, Anne lived in the Attleboro, MA area for the last seven years. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Patrick and Anna (Dowd) Shea. She graduated as President and valedictorian of Ascension High School. Anne then earned her degree as a Registered Nurse from the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1939. Her bachelor's degree from St Joseph's College, in Standish, ME and her Master's degree in Psychology from Anna Maria College, in Worcester. In addition Anne earned advanced certification as a Clinical Specialist in Adult Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing. Anne is survived by her devoted children; Judith D'Errico and her husband Michael of Virginia; John H. Flynn III and his wife Virginia of Attleboro and Gary Flynn of Colorado; her sister Christine Parolis, of Shrewsbury, Four grandchildren and five great grandchildren including Christopher D'Errico, his wife, Marielle, and their children Sofia, Lukas, and Jillian of Virginia; Maria (D'Errico) Hardy, her husband, Scott, and their children, Adam and Ella of Virginia; Eileen and Timothy Flynn of Attleboro; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, George P. Shea, Mary "Mae" Birch and Rita Vollendorf. As a Registered Nurse, Anne's nursing career included several years of industrial nursing at Norton Co. during WWII. She then worked at Worcester State Hospital as a psychiatric social worker, nursing supervisor and retired after twenty-five years service as Assistant Director of Nursing. Throughout her career as a psychiatric nurse she was committed to protecting the rights of the emotionally handicapped in Worcester County. Anne's dedication to her career was only second to her devotion as a loving Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend. She was a member of the former St. Margaret Mary Church. The Massachusetts Nurse's Association, the Notre Dame, St. Joseph College and Anna Maria College Alumni Associations and the State, County and Municipal Employees Association. . The funeral will be held Thursday, February 12th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike Rd. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Wednesday, February 11th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
