Michael F. Scirpoli, 92, of Shrewsbury passed away peacefully, Sunday, February 1st, 2009, surrounded by his family. Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Aili S. (Josephson) Scirpoli; His three devoted sons, Michael Scirpoli and his wife Sharon of Mashpee, John Scirpoli and his companion Anne Cahill; Frank Scirpoli and his wife Joanne all of Shrewsbury; two sisters, Lillian "Lil" Laughlin and Lucia "Lou" Ray both of Shrewsbury; three grandchildren, Lauren, Matthew and Christopher; three great grandchildren, Avery Heenan, Adysen, and Alyvia; many nieces, nephews and friends. Three sisters, Grace and Antoinette "Donnie" Manzi, and Rafaela "Rae" McDonald, and a brother Matteo "Chich" Scirpoli all pre deceased him. Michael was born in Worcester, son of Frank and Maria (Notarangelo) Scirpoli. He graduated from Shrewsbury High School class of 1935, where he was a standout athlete and Captain in both Football and Baseball served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army and has lived in Shrewsbury all his life. Mike worked more than 20 years for Neles-Jamesbury Corporation before retiring. He previously worked for the former Orlando's Market and Leland-Gifford Company. He was a member of St Anne's Church, the former Lakeman's Lodge, the Italian American Victory Club and the Victor Quaranta Post American Legion. During High school athletics Mike was a pitcher and 3rd baseman in Baseball and Quarterback and defensive back in football. He also played baseball in the Worcester Industrial League, Italian American Victory Club team, pitching a perfect game, getting three hits of three at bats and driving in two of the runs. Mike was also an avid golfer, and would meet weekly with friends from the Victor Quaranta Post to golf at Heritage Golf Course. The funeral will be held Thursday, February 5th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL; 370 Plantation St. with a mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike Rd. Burial will follow in Mt. View Cemetery. A period of calling hours will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the mass.
