Mary A. (Karpovitch) Paine of Worcester formerly of 609 Shrewsbury St. Holden and Seabury Heights in Worcester, passed away Monday, January 26th 2009 in the University of Massachusetts Hospital. Mary's husband, Edward W. Paine, predeceased her in 1974. She is survived by her four devoted children, Carolyn Carter of Gardner, Edward W. Paine, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Gilbert Arizona, June E. Paine of Portsmouth, N.H. and Paul M. Paine and his wife Martha of Auburn; a niece, Phyllis (Murphy) Sundman and her husband Phil of Grafton; twelve grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. A brother, Anthony Karpovitch and a sister, Frances Murphy predeceased her. Born in Worcester, Mary was a daughter of the late Peter and Caroline (Shidlauskas) Karpovitch. Raised in Millbury and Worcester, Mary also lived many years in Holden. In their early years, Mary and Edward owned and operated the Mountain Dairy in Holden. Mary worked as a receptionist more than twenty-six years for the University of Massachusetts before retiring. She was also a licensed Real-estate Broker. Mary was a member of St. Anne's Church. While she enjoyed her work, Mary cherished greatly caring for her family and enjoyed being with her grand and great grandchildren. She will be missed dearly. Mary's funeral will be held Friday, January 30th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike Rd., Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Thursday, January 29, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
