Gladys I. (Magill) Carpino, 99, formerly of 50 Shrewsbury St. passed away Friday, January 23rd 2009, in the St. Francis Home. Gladys husband Ralph Carpino, Sr. passed away in 1987. She is survived by her four children, Christina S. Monopoli and her husband Gaetano "Guy" , Anthony F. Carpino and his wife Beverly, and Ralph Carpino, Jr. all of Worcester; Alan R. Carpino, Sr. and his wife Doris of Florida; eleven grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; Neices, nephews and friends. A daughter in law Rita Carpino passed away in 2004. Gladys was born in Grafton, one of seven children born to Edward and Margaret (Porter) Magill and has lived in Worcester most of her life. At onetime Gladys worked for Doctors Hospital, Norton Company and Private Families in the Worcester Area. She was a simple and gentle Irish mother, who cherished raising her family, seeing her grand and great-grandchildren grow and just enjoying their company. She was an active involved member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church and the Golden Years. Gladys frequently volunteered her time helping her church in anyway she could. The funeral for Gladys will be held Tuesday, January 27th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL; 370 Plantation St. with a mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Monday, January 26th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. Francis Home activities fund, 101 Plantation St. 01604. The Carpino family would like to especially thank the Staff and Nurses of the St. Francis Home for the exceptional care and comfort they provided to their mother.
