Eleanore G. (Oleski) Mikolajczyk, 70, of Progressive Street in Worcester, passed away, Sunday, January 4, 2009, surrounded by her loving family, in Memorial Hospital, after a courageous ten year battle with emphysema. She leaves her loving husband, with whom she recently celebrated fifty years of marriage, John J. Mikolajczyk. Eleanore is also survived by her children and their spouses, a daughter, Darlene E. Tedeschi and her husband Joseph of Mansfield; John J. Mikolajczyk, Jr. and his wife Pamela of Auburn, Joseph J. Mikolajczyk and his wife Lynne of Shrewsbury; eight grandchildren, Adam, Jillian, Brett, Nicole, Lauren, Jacob, Daniel, and Julie; a brother, John Oleski of Sturbridge; three sisters, Lorraine Farrell of Worcester, Kathie Nowlan in California, and Deborah Butts in Illinois; several sisters-in-law, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was born in Worcester, daughter of John J. and Stephanie F. (Smeagle) Oleski; she graduated from Saint Mary's High School, and has lived here most of her life. Mrs. Mikolajczyk worked as a lab technician at Saint Vincent Hospital for many years, before she retired. She was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church. She enjoyed friendly card games with her family, crocheting, and dining out. Eleanore was a deeply religious person, who counted and gave thanks for her blessings regularly, especially for surviving breast cancer. She enjoyed spending time with her family and sharing in her grandchildren's many activities. Her love and devotion to her family had no bounds; and she was each of her children's and grandchildren's number one fan. The funeral for Eleanore will be held Thursday, January 8, from MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, January 7, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
