Georgette Borek

Georgette (Haffty) Borek, 84, of Worcester, passed away, Tuesday, December 16, 2008 in Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation. Her husband, Walter S. Borek, pre-deceased her in 2001. Georgette is survived by four sons, Walter S. Borek, Sr. and his wife Sheila of Worcester, Michael P. Borek and his wife Jane of Webster, New Hampshire, Richard J. Borek and his wife Maria of Hartford, Connecticut, and Donald J. Borek and his companion Arlene Bourque of Worcester; two daughters, Cynthia A. Soloperto and her husband Gerald of Southbridge, and Diane M. Parker and her husband Wayne of Worcester; a brother, John Haffty and a sister, Louise Awiszio both of Worcester; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by three brothers and three sisters, George N. Haffty of Worcester, Thomas Haffty of Worcester and Joseph Haffty of Lakewood, Colorado, Sally Jensen of Weymouth, Nora C. Young of Worcester, and Mabel Scoggins of Massapequa Park, New York. Georgette was born in Worcester, daughter of Norman and Mary (Wood) Haffty and has lived here all her life. She worked in the catalogue department of the Worcester Public Library for over fifteen years, before retiring in 1989. Georgette was a member of Saint George Orthodox Cathedral, and the Polish American Veterans Auxiliary. Georgette's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the kind people on "six south" at Memorial Hospital and to the care givers at Holy Trinity, for the kindness and care they shared with Georgette. The funeral service for Georgette will be held this evening, THURSDAY, December 18, at 8 p.m. in Saint George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna Street, Worcester, with a Trisagon Service immediately prior. Calling hours will be held this evening as well from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. IN THE CATHEDRAL. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery will be at 10 a.m. Friday, December 19. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna Street, Worcester, MA 01604 or to Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation, 300 Barber Avenue, Worcester, MA 01606. Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
