Edmond T. Savage Sr., 82, of Worcester passed away Sunday, December 14, 2008 in the Millbury Health Care Center surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years Joan M. (Giabatti) Savage; a son, Edmond T. Savage Jr. and his wife JoAnn of Worcester; a daughter, Deborah J. Savage and her husband Michael P. DiPersia of Amherst, NH; five grandchildren, William, Rachel and Luke Savage and Michael and Chase DiPersia, as well as many nieces and nephews. Two brothers, William and Raymond Savage; and four sisters, Beatrice Savage, Claire Charbonneau, Maryanne Lefrancois and Eleanor Larson all predeceased her. Edmond was born on September 8, 1926, in Worcester, the son of the late William E. Savage and Blanche M. (Duquette) Savage. He attended St. Joseph's Elementary School and graduated from St. John's High School as part of the class of 1945. He joined the U.S. Navy in January of 1945 during World War II. Upon returning from the Navy, Ed enrolled at Becker Junior College where he took courses in Accounting and Business Law. He went on to work for 37 years at Lindberg Heat Treating Company retiring as Plant Superintendent in 1988. Ed was one of the early presidents of the Jack Barry Little League and was an active member of the former Strawberry Hills Golf Club. In his later years, Ed took pride in his vegetable garden and was a loyal fan of St. John's High Football, and Notre Dame Academy Softball. In 2001 Ed was elected to the St. John High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Ed had many loves. He loved sports, games, and puzzles; he loved singing and playing music; he loved building and fixing things. He especially loved spending quality time with the most important person in his life, his wife whom he lovingly called "Jennie". Edmond built a house for his wife and children 55 years ago in Worcester and it continues to provide warmth and comfort for his family. Edmond's funeral will be held Thursday, December 18th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Loreto Church, 37 Massasoit Rd. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home Thursday, December 18th.
