Oleno Lee Buffone

Oleno "Lee" Buffone of Worcester, passed away Saturday, December 6, 2008, in his home. His wife of nearly sixty years, Mary C. (DiCicco) Buffone, passed away in February. Lee is survived by his son Michael Buffone and his wife Mary Buffone; a daughter in law, Margaret A. (Direnzo) Buffone of Worcester; two grandchildren, Christina M. Burdulis and Vincent J. Buffone both of Worcester; a great grandson, Anthony Vincent Burdulis; three brothers, Salvatore "Butch" Buffone of Sutton, Nicholas Buffone of Millbury and Louis Buffone of Bath, Maine; a sister, Rose M. Varieur of Worcester; many nieces and nephews. A son, Vincent C. Buffone, passed away in February 2001; he was also pre-deceased by a granddaughter, Jennifer Lee Buffone, and nine brothers and sisters, Charles, Frank, Raymond, Joseph, Albert, Peter, Armando, George, and Carmella Buffone. Lee was born in Worcester, a son of Giuseppe and Antoinette (Belsito) Buffone, and has lived here all his life. He graduated from Commerce High School, and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He then enlisted to proudly serve his nation in The United States Navy, during World War II; where he was stationed aboard several ships in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatres. Mr. Buffone worked for the City of Worcester in the Department of Public Works for over thirty-five years. He held many positions including foreman of several departments, finally retiring as a supervisor. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Ann Church, the East Side Post 201 American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and the former Pope John Council of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Buffone enjoyed keeping active by playing golf and experiencing "The Wonder of It All". Lee believed that family was a gift and something to be cherished; he was especially blessed to have a special closeness with his grandchildren. Funeral services and calling hours are being held privately. MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
