John F. "Pudgie" Markowski, 71, of Worcester passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2008 in the Memorial Hospital after a long illness. John is survived by his beloved 18 years companion and fiancée Gail Curran; a brother, Richard Markowski and his wife Diane all of Worcester; many nieces, nephews, and extended family including Amber Lee Curran of Largo, Florida who called him "Grandpa" . Three brothers, Edward, Theodore and William Markowski and a sister, Helen Austikiwez pre deceased him. He was born in Worcester, the youngest child of the late Stephen and Helen (Jakubiak) Markosky. He attended Worcester public schools, served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War and has lived here all her life. Pudgie worked over 10 years Assumption College in Building Maintenance before retiring. He previously worked 25 years as a molder for Standard Foundry. Pudgie's funeral will be held Monday, November 17th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. John Church, 40 Temple St. After cremation burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. A period of visitation will be held Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
