Mrs. Catherine E. (Katie) McGurl, 100, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2008 at Saint Francis Home in Worcester. She was born April 25, 1908 in Sugar Notch, PA., the daughter of Thomas and Bridgett (Cuff) Callahan. Catherine moved to Worcester as a child and has lived here all her life. She worked as an inspector at Parker Manufacturing for 35 years before retiring in 1976. She is survived by her daughter, Helen K. Glynn and her husband Kenneth of Lakeland, FL, her daughter in law Jeannette McGurl, her sons William P. and his wife Inge of Paxton, Terrence P. of Worcester, Kevin T. and his wife Marjorie of Worcester and her sister Mary Doucette of Worcester. She leaves 17 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 2 great, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband George, her son George Jr and grandson Robert McGurl, her sister Ellen and her brothers William and Francis. She lived her life to the fullest, always on the go with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed her family and the many special events they celebrated. She recently received the key to the city from Mayor Konstantina Lukes as a tribute on reaching her 100th birthday. The McGurl family would like to thank the dedicated staff at St Francis Home for the excellent care they provided Katie. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family, Wednesday, October 8th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. A Mass of celebration will be held at Thursday, October 9th at 10:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 600 Cambridge St. Her burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton, MA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. Francis Home, 101 Plantation St.
