Shelleigh M. Wilcox, 47, of Worcester, passed away Monday, October 6, 2008, in Worcester. Shelleigh is survived by a loving family including her brother, Michael C. Wilcox of Worcester; three half sister, Robin, Shea, and Chrissy; a niece, Lindsey Nicole Aseem and a nephew, Michael R. Wilcox; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of George and Lois A. (Mays) Wilcox, where she went to Holy Name High School and Quinsigamond Community College. Having grown up in Worcester, she became a youth counselor, and worked for Seven Hills Foundation, eventually moving to Baltimore, where she worked for a short time, before returning to Worcester. Shelleigh worked on the construction of Med City in Worcester, where she was one of the first female pipe fitters. She was studying to receive her journeyman's license. She enjoyed playing basketball, reading, listening to music, especially jazz, and spending time with children. She was of Native American decent and was active with The Native American Council-Women's Coalition, she was a member of The Hassanamisco Nipmuc Tribe in Grafton, and was active in the annual Pow Wow on the reservation. She volunteered for the Nipmuc Indian Offices in Grafton and Worcester. She was a warm outgoing person, who was loved by her family, especially by her big brother. She had a spirit of fun and humor, and would capture the attention of everyone, wherever she might be. She was not afraid to speak her mind, and shared her convictions freely. She lived by the good words of her Bible and by the good morals of her Native American Ancestry. A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 11, at 12 Noon in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Burial in The Old Oak Street Burial Ground in Grafton will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held Saturday morning in the funeral home from 10 a.m. until 12 Noon in the funeral home, immediately prior to her funeral service.
