Blanche K. Fay-Hiltz, 85, of Worcester passed away peacefully, Wednesday, September 24th, 2008 in the University of Massachusetts surrounded by family. Blanche's husband Basil Hiltz passed away in 1992. She is survived by her five children, Harold Fay of Winchendon, Walter Fay of Fitchburg, Angie Hanley and her husband Gary of Shrewsbury, Arlene Oroszko of Worcester and Esther Merly and her husband Jose of Worcester; a brother Frank Garrow in New York; 18 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Two sons, Earl and Wallace Gary and a daughter Linda Roberts all pre deceased her. She was born in Bloomingdale, New York, one of thirteen children born to Nelson and Florence (Chamberlin) Garrow and has lived in Worcester all her life. Blanche was a Foster Mother who cared for many children in need over the years. She was well known for love and giving to her children, the community and anyone in need. She volunteered many hours of her time to the Friendly House in Worcester. Blanche was a member of St Paul's Cathedral. She enjoyed decorating and won newspaper recognition for her skills. The funeral will be held Saturday, September 27th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St, with a mass at 10:00 a.m. in the Cathedral of St. Paul, 15 Chatham St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. A period of calling hours will be held from 8:30 am to 9:30 am in the funeral home.
