Hazel Tatum

October 9, 1925 — August 25, 2008

Hazel (Brown) Tatum, 83, of Shrewsbury passed away Monday, August 25th in St Vincent Hospital with family by her side. Hazel's husband Dewey Tatum, Sr. passed away in 1988. She is survived by her devoted children, Sandra Castro, Sharon Amissah and Keith Tatum all of Worcester, Tyrone Hendricks of Fishkill N.Y., Jabari and Carlton Tatum both of Albany; 29 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Two daughters, Karen Thomas and Lois Owens and a brother Fleming Brown all pre deceased her. She was born in Rochester N.Y. a daughter of the late John H. and Mildred (Dyson) Brown and has lived here most of her life. Hazel was a member and Deaconess of the Second Baptist Church and the Worcester Dream Center. She loved people, had many friends and was an enthusiastic traveler. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 29th at 11:00 a.m. in Second Baptist Church, 14 Hammond St. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial park in Paxton. Calling hours will be held Thursday, August 28th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Joslin Diabetes Center, One Joslin Place, Boston Mass 02215.
