Frank A. Vuona, 96, of Worcester passed away Tuesday, August 19th 2008, in the Knollwood Rehabilitation Center with his daughters at his side after a brief illness. Frank's wife of 70 years Stella B. (Incutto) Vuona passed away June 18th of 2007. Frank is survived by his devoted daughters, Diane Donovan of West Boylston, Sandra DeSimone and her husband Anthony of Northboro; two sisters, Helen Taddeo and Rita Sacco both of Worcester; five cherished grandchildren, Lisa, David, Laurie, Stephen and Melissa; 11 great grandchildren, Anthony, Pierce, Lance, Olivia, Jack, Sean, Cassidy, Layla Rose, Ava and Nora; many nieces and nephews. Frank was born in Worcester one of eleven children born to Peter and Angelina (Ferraro) Vuona and has lived here all his life. Frank owned and operated Teddy's Filling Station on Franklin St over 55 years before retiring. During World War II, Frank owned an Independent Cab, and managed the Independent Cab Owners Association. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel-St Anne Church. Frank was extremely active in serving the people of Worcester. He was a Worcester City Councilor. Frank chaired and served on the Worcester Housing Authority for 12 years. He was a Worcester Parks Commissioner, a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Bishop O'Reilly Assembly and the Pope John XXIII Council. He was a member of the Worcester Lodge 168, Order Sons of Italy and the First Friday Club. Frank's funeral will be held Friday, August 22nd from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a mass at 12 noon in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family from 10:30 t0 11:30 in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Venerini Academy, 23 Edwards St. Worcester, 01604 or the Activities Fund of the Summit Elder Care, East Mountain St. Worcester 01606.
