Phyllis A. Migliozzi, 81, of Shrewsbury, longtime Director of Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing, passed away Friday, August 15th in the University of Massachusetts Hospital after being stricken ill at home. Phyllis worked for the City of Worcester for nearly 40 years before retiring. She was a registered nurse for City Hospital and then became director of the City Hospital School of Nursing until it closed in 1991. She was a member of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing, and Worcester City Hospital Alumna Association. Phyllis was born in Worcester on May 30th, 1927, the youngest child of Casto and Ricchetta (DeQuattro) Migliozzi. She graduated from Commerce High where she was a three sport standout in Field Hockey, Baseball and Basketball. Phyllis was a graduate of Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing; she furthered her career at Boston College, followed by Worcester State College to earn her Master's Degree in Nursing. She lived in Worcester before moving to Shrewsbury twelve years ago. Phyllis is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Three brothers, Paul, Anthony and Constance "Connie" Migliozzi and two sisters, Virginia J. Penny and Mary A. Jaston all pre deceased her. Phyllis was a member, office volunteer, lector, Eucharistic minister and parish council member at St. Anne's Church. She was also one of the original nurses at the St Anne's Free Medical Clinic. Phyllis was a member of the Worcester County Deputy Sheriffs Association. She loved the Cape, was an avid sports fan, and dearly loved by her family and friends. Phyllis will best be remembered for her selfless dedication and commitment to her family and friends. Affectionately known as "Auntie Phil", she devoted much of her life to her family, especially her many nephews and nieces. She would always be counted on to be there in good times and bad; to help, guide, support or inspire whomever was in need. Phyllis was everyone's favorite and she thoroughly enjoyed this recognition at many family gatherings. Her strong presence and infectious laugh will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. The funeral will be held Wednesday, August 20th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike Rd. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Tuesday, August 19th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
