Theodora "Dora" (Pappas) Gicas, 82, of Worcester passed away Monday, August 4th in the University of Massachusetts after being stricken earlier in the week. Dora was born November 14th, 1925 in Filliatis, Greece, the daughter of the late Christos and Anastasia (Filliou) Pappas. She came to Worcester, as a young child, graduated from Commerce High School, attended Becker Junior College, married her late husband Nicholas E. Gicas, raised her family, co-owned and operated with her husband and son the Courthouse Café in the former Worcester Court House for more than 40 years, and has lived here all her life. Dora's beloved husband and partner of 46 years Nicholas E. Gicas, passed away in 1993. She is survived by her children, Dean M. Gicas and his wife Gail of Shrewsbury, Joanna C. Voyiatzis and her husband Dimitrios of Worcester; her two brothers, Anthony Pappas of Holden, and George Pappas of Auburn; four grandchildren, Kristin, John, Gregory and Nicholas; many nieces and nephews. A sister, Helen Matulaitis pre deceased her. Dora was a member of St. Spyridon's Greek Orthodox Cathedral, and its ladies Philoptochos Society. Dora also volunteered her time assisting in the Church office. Her grandchildren were her passion; she was dedicated to them, her family and her church. She enjoyed Cape Cod, and loved to Walk. Funeral services for Dora will be held Wednesday, August 6th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a service at 11:30 a.m. in St. Spyridon's Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell St. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 5th in the funeral home. A trisagion service will be held Tuesday during calling hours.
