William H. Spence, 78, of Homestead Street, formerly of Green Farms Road in Worcester, passed away Friday, December 7, 2007. His wife, Barbara (Richardson) Spence passed away in March 2002. William leaves two sons, William S. Spence of Worcester and Gary R. Spence of Scranton, Pennsylvania; two brothers, Robert J. Spence of Daytona Beach, and Wilfred A. Spence of Worcester; three grandchildren, Monique Toon of Shrewsbury, Nicole Smith of Pascoag, Rhode Island, and Mercedes Leena of Worcester; six great grandchildren, Christopher, Marlon, Justin, Hope, Lucian, and Mitchell; many nieces and nephews. A brother, George O. Spence, pre-deceased him. William was born in Worcester, the son of George E. and Margaret S. (Scott) Spence; and attended Public School here in Worcester, before joining the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Spence was a truck driver for many years with F & H Transportation for many years, before he retired. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 170, a life member of V.F.W. Post 312. He was a good and faithful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. The funeral for Mr. Spence will be held Wednesday, December 12, at 10 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, December 11, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
